NYS TESOL 2nd Annual Essay Contest

Dear NYS TESOL Members:
You may submit essays from your students on the following topic:

My Growth as an English Learner and a New American

Categories

Grades 4-8
Grades 9-12
Adult & University

Qualifications

Must be an English Language Learner or a recent ELL who moved to the mainstream by June 2006.
Must be sponsored by a NYS TESOL member.

Guidelines for the Contest

Essays will be written in English
Essays will be submitted via e-mail
Essays will be limited to 250 words

Essays will be judged according to

Focus on the main ideas and development of theme
Good planning and logical organization
Varied sentence structure and emerging control of conventions of English

Please submit your students' essays to sigs@nystesol.org.

Deadline for receiving essays: June 30, 2007
Please include the cover sheet (pdf) with essays submitted.
