NYS TESOL 2nd Annual Essay Contest

Winning Essays of last year's contest can be read here.

Dear NYS TESOL Members:
You may submit essays from your students on the following topic:

My Growth as an English Learner and a New American

Categories

  • Grades 4-8
  • Grades 9-12
  • Adult & University

Qualifications

  • Must be an English Language Learner or a recent ELL who moved to the mainstream by June 2006.
  • Must be sponsored by a NYS TESOL member.

Guidelines for the Contest

  • Essays will be written in English
  • Essays will be submitted via e-mail
  • Essays will be limited to 250 words

Essays will be judged according to

  • Focus on the main ideas and development of theme
  • Good planning and logical organization
  • Varied sentence structure and emerging control of conventions of English

Please submit your students' essays to sigs@nystesol.org.

Deadline for receiving essays: June 30, 2007
Please include the cover sheet (pdf) with essays submitted.

Send questions to sigs@nystesol.org. Winners will be announced in Idiom and awarded prize and certificates at the November 2-3, 2007 NYS TESOL Conference in White Plains, N.Y. Best of luck to all.
