Statement of Purpose
The NYS TESOL Adult Education Special Interest Group (SIG) is dedicated to providing a collaborative forum in which to develop our professionalism as teachers of adult students. The SIG offers its members an arena in which to discuss and practice teaching methodologies that not only effectively educate the adult language-learner but also support these essential ideals:
- Respect for our students as individuals
- Support for our students as risk-takers
- Empowerment for our students to improve their lives
- Encouragement for our students to become life-long learners
Statement of Goals
The NYS TESOL Adult Education SIG is committed to fostering the improvement of adult learning programs for community-based organizations, colleges and continuing education programs, and private language schools. We seek to accomplish this by:
- Promoting the professional growth of our members
- Encouraging network-building
- Exploring community resources
- Stimulating innovation
- Recognizing the imperative of being engaged, responsive and responsible educators.
The foundation of our Adult Education SIG is a belief in the essential role of education and community to positively affect the lives of adults.
