Meet the NYS TESOL Member of the Month
for March 2017

Kathleen McCann Klaiber
  Rochester/Syracuse Region

Kathleen McCann Klaiber is Associate Professor of ESL and English at Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY.  She has taught at the college since 2010 and was the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014.  Kate is a retired USAF spouse who has traveled extensively and now lives with her family in LeRoy, NY.  She loves her profession because she gets to interact with students from all over the world.  She received her M.A. in Applied Linguistics with a TESOL certificate from the University of Utah in 1997.

NYS TESOL is very important for her because she is the only full-time faculty member in her field at her small, rural community college.  Conference attendance allows her to interact with colleagues from all over the state and she always come back filled with new ideas.  Increasingly, membership is important because of potential changes in our political system. In addition, she has been able to network with the ROCESOL group of higher education professionals because of her TESOL affiliation.

Check out our wonderful annual awards and nominate a colleague this year !
