Meet the NYS TESOL Member of the Month for February 2017

Lisa Rost Lewis
Lisa Rost Lewis
  Hudson Valley Region

Lisa has a BA in Language and Literature from the University of Michigan and an MA in TESOL from Eastern Michigan University. She has enjoyed teaching ELL students at SUNY New Paltz’s Haggerty English Language Program for more than 20 years as both a full-time faculty member and an adjunct. She additionally provided teacher training in SUNY New Paltz’s Masters in TESOL program for several years, and continues to work with international teachers in summer pedagogical workshops. Previously, she worked with ELLs at various schools in Michigan and in Japan.

Over the years NYS TESOL has offered Lisa important opportunities to connect with other ESL professionals and be inspired. Interacting with teachers from other programs and interest sections has opened her eyes to the vast talent and dedication in our field. The ideas and techniques that are shared at the conferences always motivate her.

She also appreciates the fact that creating a poster or presentation for a conference helps her look at her own teaching in new ways. Co-presenting with other educators has especially given her new perspectives on how to teach. And she’s happy to know that the best part of collaborating in our professional organization is that the people who benefit the most are our students.

Check out our wonderful annual awards and nominate a colleague this year !
