Meet the NYS TESOL Member of the Month for
Lucia Buttaro, PhD
New York City Region
Buttaro is currently Chair of the Program of TESOL at Touro College.
Highly skilled in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and
English as a Second Language (ESL), as well as conversational Italian
and Spanish, she is experienced in coaching teachers at their
respective schools in dual language, Spanish, ESL and Multicultural
Diversity by combining SIOP/Danielson and Common Core State Standards.
Buttaro is passionate about her work to develop quality educational
programs for ELLs/ bilingual children in the U.S. Dr. Buttaro has
presented nationally as well as internationally. Most recently she was
the keynote speaker for the Dual Language conference at the Universidad
de Alcala, Spain. Dr. Buttaro has written extensively in the areas of
bilingual education, home language literacy, and language diversity.
The numerous awards and nominations she has received for her work are a
testament to her unsurpassed contributions, dedication, and commitment
to the field of Bilingual Education.
